Bali, Indonesia
July 22-August 5, 2008
Bonnie Showers, Director
The Center sponsors cultural tours and workshops in several areas of the world. In Bali this year, we will be offering our first Integrated Arts and Culture Workshop specifically for teachers. This new program is designed as an immersion in Indonesian arts and culture for K-12 teachers and teaching artists who work in
K-12 schools. No previous experience in any of the forms is required.
Participants will spend two weeks at the Center's Flower Mountain facility near Payangan Village, Bali. Under the guidance of Bonnie Showers, workshop director, Indonesian artists who speak English will provide instruction in the visual and performing arts of Bali, Sunda, and Java: mask theater, shadow puppetry, Balinese painting, temple offerings (flowers, bamboo, palm leaves), music (instrumental gamelan ensembles), and dance. This unique experience includes excursions to performances, temple ceremonies, ikat weaving and gamelan factories, and places of historical and cultural interest.
Seattle, Washington, or San Franscisco, California, will be the points of departure and return.
