Anticipated percussion faculty includes Nyoman Sumandhi, Wayan Arsana, Saptono, Ade Suparman, Jamal Mohamed, Poovalur Srinivasan, John Flood, and Varol Erdogan. All-inclusive cost of $2495 includes round-trip airfare from Los Angeles (LAX) on Japan Airlines (JAL) to Bali, room and gourmet meals at Flower Mountain cultural facility in Payangan, central Bali (close to the arts intensive village of Ubud), and all daily lessons. The program begins on July 22 with four days of introduction to Indonesian culture and travel in Bali. Formal classes begin July 26 and end on August 6, with participation in the Payangan Festival III on August 7 & 8. There will be opportunities for both scheduled and free-time field trips around the island. Leave Los Angeles on July 19th with a free overnight stay in Japan. Workshop ends on August 8, following the World Music Weekend at the close of the Payangan Festival. Return dates are flexible, but should be within 30 days of arrival in Bali. Departure from New York, Chicago, San Francisco, or Las Vegas can also be arranged for a modest additional fee. An optional music and cultural tour to central Java departs August 9 and returns to Bali on August 15. The fee for this not-to-be-missed experience is $450, which covers airfare and all costs except lunch and some of the dinners. The percussion workshop, although integrated with the general program in world music, dance, and theater, is intended for experienced percussionists, and there will be ample opportunity for individual and small group lessons. Accommodations at Flower Mountain are on a first come, first serve basis. Once rooms are full, special accommodation for nineteen nights in the village of Ubud has been arranged for an additional fee of $500 (single) or $400 each for doubles, and includes breakfast on the premises, as well as daily transport to Flower Mountain. A deposit of $300, fully refundable before May 1, will hold a place at Flower Mountain, and a reserved seat on Japan Airlines. Return to 2004 Summer Workshop in Bali |
