Classical Odissi dance classes are now available in Encinitas by Guru Yudhisthir Nayak from Orissa, India. He has performed extensively all over the world as a solo artist as well as in groups. Guru Nayak is an accomplished teacher and is also trained in Odissi Singing, Odissi Mardal (drum) and Chhau dance. His perfection in Odissi dance through graceful body movements, strong footwork, and facial expressions reflect his mastery in this art form.
Guru Nayak teaches Odissi dance to number of students in India and here in the USA. Currently, he is the teacher-in-residence for the Center for World Music in San Diego and will be available in this area thru October, 2007. When Guru Nayak is in India, one of Patnaik Sisters (Laboni / Shibani / Shalini) will continue classes. Guru Nayak has been teaching in the San Diego area since 2003. His students have excelled in many venues and have received prizes and honors. He was nominated for the American Choreography Award in 2003 in Hollywood.
